The Nature Center provides an opportunity to educate our citizens as to
the value of wildlife and its conservation.
The BEARTOOTH NATURE CENTER is...
The only public facility in Montana to house native animals not able to be returned to
the wild due to injury or habituation to humans. It cares for more than a dozen different species
placed there by the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks, including wolves,
mountain lions, black bears, moose, elk, antelope, bobcat, fox, coyote and many more.
The Center offers visitors an unparalleled chance to learn about these and other animals by
observing them at close range and through interpretive displays.
Please, plan on coming to visit us soon...
And coming soon, pictures of all the animals here with an

Dear Friends,
Every year, especially during spring and summer, hundreds of young wild animals are mistakenly picked up by the general public. The most common animals are baby birds and deer fawns. Studies show that sometimes 40% or more of the deer fawns sent to rehabilitators are not orphaned or injured, but "kidnaped" from their mothers. Data for baby birds is similar or worse. The information in this brochure should help you avoid handling or picking up young animals unnecessarily, and, if the animal is found to be truly "orphaned" or injured, to handle the animals in such a way as to minimize stress.
The best way to make sure an animal is truly orphaned is to wait and make periodic checks.
The following situations are those you are most likely to encounter.
